I have managed to watch most of the talks that interested me in this years chaos communication congress. Besides content, I feel that the congress has finally reached a position where it is a one-of-a-kind hacker congress in the world. Sure, other countries have hacker and internet-civil-rights congresses as well – but in contrast to the CCC, all of them feel either compromised or not consequential enough. For me, the C3 is still the most ethical one, that really tries to bring people together, that change things for the better. It is probably one of the most important places for resistance within the internet cyber warfare, too.
No wonder, that pretty much all personnel around the most discussed leaker, Edward Snowden, happen to appear in Hamburg – except Snowden, of course. Be it Glenn Greenwald, Jacob Appelbaum, Julian Assange or Sarah Harrison (especially happy of her appearing there!). Even the opening ceremony showed, that the congress has grown up and is ready to rumble:
And here are (the non-technical) talks by Glenn Greenwald and Julian Assange/Sarah Harrison/Jacob Appelbaum! More talk suggestions: tomorrow!
(Und für die Deutschsprachigen gibt es auch im Logbuch Netzpolitik noch eine gute Laudatio auf den besten CCC-Congress aller Zeiten – hörenswert).
