This noon, on half the way between Sylvenstein and Hochalm, I found a cute little butterfly. He was flying happily around a water trough and I was greatly delighted by his daring stunts.
Some altitudes later, I realized, that he was sitting on my boot. Oh, little butterfly! Do you want to form a friendship?, I thought. I made a small break on a alpine meadow, looking over the skyline of the Alps on this beautiful, sunny day. Just me, the chirps of the crickets and my new little friend.
When I decided to leave, the butterfly was still sitting on my boot. It nearly seemed like he wanted me to bring him somewhere. So I climbed up some more metres to the hut of two elderly people, nearly the only two persons I saw on my journey, enjoying the evening of their life in the solitude of wilderness.
After a long and demanding walk in the blazing sun, this mountain saddle was a beautiful, peaceful spot, with the long awaited cool breeze brushing a large field of wild yellow flowers. This is were my friend left me, flapping right onto one of these tempting flowers.
It may be just a pure coincidence, but I deeply believe he waited there, patiently, for the one boot to come along that would bring him the 400 metres in height up to that single spot – the perfect spot for that one particular butterfly.
Whistling, I continued my journey to the top of the mountain, now carefully guarded by two crows that followed me since my little friend had found his new home.
