In the Land of Gold: Myanmar Diary

Last year, I celebrated New Year’s Eve in city of Yangon. Which is at the same time strange and fascinating. There is no New Year’s Eve in Myanmar, so no fireworks, crackers or cheese fondue. However, Burmese people start to adapt to Western habitats slowly, too – especially the younger ones. So a celebration is somewhat going on within the streets nevertheless.

I’ve captured a little bit of it in this video.

What’s more to see in Yangon? Besides the interesting city architecture with an amazing gap between poor and rich and some of the nicest people around, there is also the Circular Railway – the commuter railway for the city built by the British in the 50ies and unchanged since then. And of course the famous Shwedagon Pagoda – one of the largest stupas in the world, covered in tons and tons of gold.
